In October last year someone suggested I enter a piece of work into the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Awards. I’ve looked at the awards before but never considered entering as it is a very formal and prestigious event and I usually avoid anything uncomfortable, like suspense or judgement, anyway I made a little face on the first of January that I was particularly pleased with, and looked at it for a week and then made a setting for it just in time for the deadline for the GCDC and sent it off.
A couple of weeks later while I was on holiday I got an email saying I had won an award and was invited to attend the award ceremony. I spent the next three weeks worrying about appropriate shoes and a dress, getting lost etc. On Monday I went up to London, navigated the Tube, found Goldsmiths’ Hall and was delighted to recieve a Bronze award. This is a picture of the piece I entered taken by a professional photographer (Richard Valencia)!!
