Enamel badger pendant with 24 ct gold wires
Enamel badger pendant with 24 ct gold wires
This is a very sweet badger which I have set in 22ct gold and oxidised sterling silver on an oxidised 22 inch sterling silver chain. The bail has a twig and berry pattern with some 22 ct gold accents. The gold is from aa victorian sovereign and the silver is also recycled. It is hallmarked on the reverse for both sterling silver and 22ct gold
I make the base by puffing out the badger shape in a hydraulic press then building up the enamel in thin layers and firing multiple times, the cloisonne wires I have used in this badger are 24 ct gold. The type of cloisonne wire you use makes a huge difference on the final piece, copper wire makes a nice dark line, silver makes a very pale bright line which isnt always easy to see, 24ct gold makes the most gorgeous lines that glow without overpowering the enamel, it is also really soft and easy to form into beautiful curves. shockingly 24ct gold cloisonne wire is currently £95 a gram while silver cloisonne wire is £1.50 a gram (Nov 2024)
the pendant in its setting is just over 2cm wide and just over 3.5cm tall including the bail.
